LitPick Review
Harper is sick of being 12. It seems like everything she wants to do, such as post on Tik-Tok, she isn't allowed until she's 13. But things seem to be turning around on her 12 1/2 birthday celebration. Her parents let her start posting on Tik-Tok early, and the most popular girl in school, Celia, has invited Harper and her best friend Ava to her birthday party. At Celia's party, Harper learns that the only reason she was invited was that her mom helped out with the party. Feeling very upset, Harper hides out in the bathroom and tries out a new Tik-Tok filter, trying to cheer herself up. Instead, she finds herself transported to her life when she's 22. At first, her life seems perfect: everything 12 1/2-year-old Harper hopes for. She's Tik-Tok famous, working for her idol Blake Riley, and best friends with Celia. But as time goes on, Harper realizes her new life might not be as perfect as it seems. But how will Harper get back to her real life? And how will she fix the mess that 22-year-old Harper has made?
Opinion:
Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book. The plot was very interesting, and I liked how the author was able to combine the very popular idea of time travel to the modern world by having a Tik-Tok filter as the portal. One thing I really liked about this story was the pacing. I think the beginning started slowly as we learned about Harper and her friends and family, and as the book progressed, more and more things started to happen. Another thing I enjoyed was the author's portrayal of the "future world". I think the things such as projected cell phones, robot assistants, and self-driving ubers really made the reader feel like they were transported to the future. Lastly, I think the author did a great job with character development, as we can see that Harper's priorities changed throughout the story. As she saw flaws in her future self, she worked to fix these once she got back to her real life. Overall, I highly recommend this book to any readers looking for an exciting and quick read!
