LitPick Review
Wynn Parker is a curious 8-year-old boy who is spending his summer learning new things! Every day Wynn explores a new profession with his neighbor Mr.Kennedy, who is like a grandpa to him. One day, Wynn decides that he wants to try out being a mechanic! Mr.Kennedy's car is in need of an oil change, so the two decide they will try and do an oil change the way a mechanic would. They quickly realize that neither of them knows how to do an oil change, but luckily Mr.Kennedy's friend Brett is a mechanic. Brett tells them that they can come over to his shop, and he will teach them how to change the oil. Wynn is excited, but also a little scared. He doesn't want to accidentally mess up Mr.Kennedy's car! Will Wynn and Mr.Kennedy be able to learn how to do an oil change and be mechanics for the day?
Opinion:
Overall, this is a great book for young readers. I liked how the main character Wynn is curious and excited to learn. I think a lot of young readers can relate to the way Wynn looks at the world. Alternatively, I think this book could also encourage curiosity in children who may not be as open to exploring new things. Throughout the story, though Wynn had doubts, he kept persevering and ended up learning an awesome skill. The story was written in language that was easy to understand, making it perfect for younger readers who want to start reading small chapter books. The book also contains black-and-white pictures that illustrate what is going on in the story. I would absolutely recommend this book to young readers.
