LitPick Review
Allergic to Mornings is an encouraging book for readers to read when they are overwhelmed by feelings of nervousness. The book takes a glimpse at Gabby’s morning before her first day of kindergarten. To relieve her daughter’s fears, Gabby’s mom asks Gabby about her teachers, friends, and anticipated activities that are waiting for her at school. Readers will have to wait and find out if Gabby makes it to school or if she indeed is allergic to mornings.
Opinion:
Allergic to Mornings is a perfect book for young readers who experience feelings of nervousness as the main character faces these feelings as the theme throughout the book. The author incorporates lessons of bravery, friendship, and determination throughout Gabby's challenges and character development. While the character development and thematic elements of the book are strong, the author had various grammatical errors throughout the story that detract from the reading and overall quality of the book, especially if the book is read aloud. Finally, the illustrations throughout the book were not extremely eye-catching that one would expect in a young children’s book.
