LitPick Review
When Peg, the pig train conductor, calls all aboard to take a train ride around the zoo, she has plenty of animal passengers that can’t wait to have fun on the train. She’s joined by lions, giraffes, monkeys, penguins, owls, and pigs as they all sing along while riding throughout the zoo.
The inspiration for this children’s story is based on the fun and extremely popular song that all children learn, “The Wheels on the Bus.” As Peg starts off the song, each passenger that boards her train of fun adds to the ongoing lively and very charmingly unique version of this children’s classic song.
Opinion:
I truly found this story to be one in which I couldn’t help but smile from ear to ear throughout the entire story. Although this was a unique version adapted to the children’s tune “The Wheels on the Bus,” readers will easily find themselves fitting the new words right into the famous jingle everyone is so familiar with and joining in on singing along with Peg and all the animals. The sing song words that were chosen for this version of the song fit so well, and readers will find themselves singing right along with the animals from the very first page.
I feel that children and adults will lose themselves in this adorable children’s story and feel as if they are another passenger on Peg’s train, seeing all that is happening and singing along with all the animals that are going on a train ride. It was so fun to see the various animals boarding the train, and I even found it comical that although the train was small, it fit giraffes and lions without any problems.
There were vivid illustrations provided by Tamara Joubert that were found on every page of this creative children’s picture book. Each picture was the perfect accompaniment to the text written by the author and enhanced the overall enjoyment the readers will experience as they turn the pages. I found the colors warm and inviting to the eyes, allowing readers to become fully submerged in this fun read. The illustrations of the train and all the boarded animals were whimsically done, and children will be amused by the detailed renderings of each animal species that were written about.
Overall, Choo! Choo! Choo! The Train at the Zoo is the perfect children’s book to add to your child’s library. It's a book that can be read any time and will provide plenty of giggles as your child sings along to the newly created words to this famous children’s jingle. This children’s book will surely amuse every reader who picks it up. Well done, Ms. Welton!
