Peek a Boop is a light-hearted book for young readers that encourages fun and imaginative behaviors at home. The children’s story follows a family of a mom, dad, and two kiddos. The parents bring home a fun and furry surprise for the children to spot. However, their furry friend keeps whooshing past the kids, and they can’t spot their new pet. When the kids finally spy their new kitten, she disappears throughout the house! The kids look everywhere: under the couch, the bed, behind the plants, and nothing! Their mom advises patience, and finally they catch more glimpses of their new furry surprise. Follow along and see if the kitten can be spotted before she whooshes away!
Opinion:
Peek a Boop is a perfect interactive story for young readers who find joy in sounds and identifying items on a colorful page. The author does a fantastic job at teaching the readers to have patience but also keep trying to find the new kitten. This is a great lesson for even the youngest of readers to learn. The author also incorporates onomatopoeias into the story to make the story more alive when children read along out loud. The language encourages children to find the kitten throughout the story, which is interactive and fun for readers to experience in a short children’s book. In addition, the illustrations have a crayon-like texture that feels like the typical coloring pages of a young reader. The illustrator also incorporates a diverse family dynamic into the story to foster a culture of inclusion and belonging for readers to experience. Overall, Peek a Boop is a perfect read for younger children to interact with the story as they follow along and try to find the new kitten surprise!
