LitPick Review
Purist? No. Idealist? No. Perfectionist? YES! Perfectionist is the PERFECT word. Petunia is a perfectionist. She did not know it until she overheard her friend describe her as a perfectionist. She likes her coloring PERFECT, her school assignments PERFECT, and her guitar playing PERFECT! It takes a lot of sacrifice to be perfect. There is no time for play or fun. Then it happens. One day Petunia is not perfect. Will Petunia be able to recover from her imperfection?
Opinion:
It is okay to be imperfect. “[E]very time we make a mistake, our brains grow!” This is the heartwarming message in Petunia the Perfectionist. Author Marissa Bader’s descriptive writing allows the reader a peek into the life of Petunia by using real struggles to connect with readers. Thus, she delivers an emotional tale of self-discovery. The illustrator, Ellie Beykzadeh, provides depth and beauty to the story. Beykzadeh’s stunning, vibrant images are wonderfully PERFECT. With its relatable themes and lovable protagonist, Petunia the Perfectionist is a must-read for readers of all ages. It is a perfectly delightful addition to any bookshelf!
