LitPick Review
Christmas Actually is a feel-good story that will get you in the Christmas mood. We are introduced to the characters in Christmas Actually four days before Christmas. All the characters are coworkers at the Baltimore Star, a newspaper located in Baltimore, Maryland, and everyone is finalizing their plans for the holiday season. Each character will be spending the Christmas holiday in a very different way this year. Some are preparing for big changes while others are missing family members and trying to start new traditions.
Opinion:
Each of the characters travels to a different destination to celebrate Christmas, and the author does a wonderful job of bringing each setting to life. Having spent time in the Baltimore area, I was able to picture Fells Point and the Inner Harbor in my mind while reading. Thanks to the author's descriptions, I was also able to visualize the other locations, especially the sunny resort in Mexico and the Christmassy Pine Tree, Vermont. The author also did a good job developing each character with their own set of feelings about the upcoming holiday season. The characters' real-life feelings like the recent loss of a loved one, mending strained relationships, and creating new holiday traditions were very relatable. I enjoyed following along with each character as they navigated the struggles or excitement they were feeling about Christmas.
I would recommend Christmas Actually to anyone who is looking for an entertaining book for the Christmas season!
