Mattie must find her body before being banished to the Badlands, and Nate is the only one who can help her. Despite being a ghost, she is able to be seen by Nate, who is persuaded when Maddie keeps ripping her own skin off to scare him. Once she gets Nate on her side, she knows they will find her body soon. With some help along the way, all while avoiding Mattie's axe-wielding ghost Pa, Nate and Mattie race against the clock to get her the peace that she is searching for.

Opinion:

This is a fun little mystery for young readers! It kept me engaged the entire time and wanting to know exactly where Mattie's body actually was. I thought all the characters were very well-described, and each had a specific purpose in the story. The vocabulary is simple, but it worked well for the age group this book is aimed towards. Mattie speaks with a funky dialect from the 1920's, but after reading a few lines, it was easy to understand what she was saying. I would definitely recommend this to readers who enjoy a light mystery and aren't afraid of a little bit of gore!
